The Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD) is a non-profit, non-political, independent and neutral International Non-Governmental Organisation, with headquarters in Geneva.
Its mission is to eradicate landmines and reduce the humanitarian, social, economic and environmental impact of mines and unexploded ordnances so that the affected communities can return to a better life in a safe environment.
FSD has mine clearance projects currently in Sudan, Tajikistan, Sri Lanka, Laos and Lebanon.
Those projects employ over 60 international personnel from 20 nationalities and 500 national personnel all year round.
Post Summary:
We offer an interesting opportunity for a qualified Accountant to run the finances of FSD largest mine action programme, at country level coordination, with a budget of several million USD.
Based in Khartum, the position will require regular travel to our spoke sites in Juba, Kadugli, Kassala, Kurmuk and Darfur.
The position reports to the FSD Deputy Programme Manager.
Your main duties include the day-to-day running of the finances (multi-project and multi-currency) and the review and documentation of all policies and procedures including cash books, reporting, forecasting, banking, transfer of funds and petty cash.
You will liaise with our headquarters in Geneva with regards to monthly cash requirements and ensure that all field locations have adequate funding and are reporting accurately and timely.
You conduct internal audits in all FSD locations throughout Sudan, prepare and consolidate monthly accounts, and prepare budget reports.
Other files will include the management of local insurances, international insurance claims and other administrative files.
Profile Requirements:
You have a strong background in finance and accounting, with both commercial and humanitarian environment experience.
You have worked for at least 3 years on international assignments in a senior role as Accountant or Finance coordinator.
You have demonstrated experience in staff management and training.
You are proficient in written and spoken English and you are able to work in a difficult context, taking responsibilities whilst working within the established policies and guidelines.
