FARM-Africa Project Officer

To assist the Project Coordinator (PC) to manage the Moyale Pastoralist Project (MPP) in accordance with project documents, work plans and budgets.

Duties:

  • To be responsible for the coordination of MPP field activities in Moyale District in line with the project budgets/work plans and the conditions of donor contracts
  • To assist the Project Coordinator with financial management, budgeting and reporting.
  • To explore and nurture mutually beneficial partnerships with other stakeholders.
  • To play an active role as a member of the FARM-Africa Kenya team.
  • To coordinate the capacity building of 4 Location Development Committees (LDCs) and 8 Community Development Committees (CDCs) and their 48 constituent groups.
  • To facilitate the participatory planning process with all stakeholders for selection and development of new enterprises.
  • To organise training for the 48 community groups in enterprise development, financial management and marketing.
  • To organise at least one financial linkage workshop per year, bringing together community group representatives and institutions that provide credit to small-scale businesses (e.g. Equity and K-REP banks).
  • To coordinate and share information about relevant activities with partner staff (e.g. CIFA, KARI) in order to provide improved services to the beneficiary community.
  • To host a monitoring visit by the Regional Programme Manager and/or Regional Operations Manager at least twice per year.
  • To complete an annual appraisal with the PC.
  • To contribute to the development of FARM-Africa policies and strategies related to pastoralist development.

    Competencies:

    Essential desirable;

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant subject
  • Computer literacy in MS-Office
  • NGO rural development experience (min. 3 yrs)
  • Knowledge of Kenyan development environment
  • Participatory Rural Appraisal
  • Participatory planning, monitoring & evaluation
  • Documentation & dissemination
  • Communication, both verbal & written
  • Previous work experience with pastoralist communities
  • Enterprise development & marketing knowledge & experience
  • Capacity building of organisations/individuals
