East Africa Governance Programme Officer, Kenya - CAFOD

Based: Nairobi, Kenya

Closing date: 14 July 2008

CAFOD is seeking to employ a programme officer for its East Africa Governance Programme addressing the need to strengthen the role of civil society in governance at local and national level.

Working with the partners in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, CAFOD will help to strengthen their capacity to engage with government in dialogue on policy formulation, accountability and other issues of participatory democracy.

If you are able to further develop a coherent governance programme in East Africa and are an enthusiastic supporter of increased participation by civil society in governance, with experience of working with partners to develop and implement coherent governance projects and share CAFOD's vision of a more just and equitable society, you may be the person for this position.

As well as having a strong understanding of the current socio-political dynamics of East Africa, you will be a good communicator, have excellent interpersonal skills and be computer literate.

Fluency in English is essential; Kiswahili will be an added advantage.

You will be based in Nairobi with frequent travel throughout the East Africa region.
