Director of Africa Program

Location: Nairobi, Kenya.

The Program Director will lead research, analysis, policy prescription and advocacy activities of the Africa program.

The Program Director will oversee and manage approximately 20 staff members located throughout Africa. The location of the posting will be Nairobi, Kenya.

Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of Africa and extensive contacts with governmental and non governmental officials, the media, and civil society.

  • 10+ years professional experience in conflict analysis, journalism, NGO, international organisations or government work related to Africa with field experience in the area.

  • Expertise covering governance issues, security sector reform and institution-building.

  • PhD or Masters degree in international relations, political science, law, journalism, sociology or equivalent through experience.

  • Excellent writing and analytical skills, and ability to formulate well-targeted policy recommendations.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including good public presentation skills, a strong capacity for effective teamwork and experience in a supervisory role.

  • Experience in overseeing budgetary and administrative matters, and management of a team.

  • Fluency in English mandatory, French highly desirable, and knowledge of local languages an advantage.

  • Willingness to undertake extensive travel throughout Africa.
