Diakonia is a Swedish non – governmental organization, created over 40 years ago by six Christian denominations in response to emergencies in different parts of the world.

Programme Officer

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of programme activity plan
  • Provide overall support to partner organizations including Diakonia on thematic areas (such as human rights, social economic justice, etc)
  • Coordinate monitoring, evaluation and reporting in the programme.
  • Co-ordinate capacity building support to partner organisations
  • Conduct regular monitoring and coordinate/support evaluations/reviews of partner organisations
  • Assess proposals, work plans, and reports from partner organisations
  • Co-ordinate and administrate partner consultation meetings for the purpose of information sharing and learning
  • General administration and ensure adherence to financial procedures of the programmes
  • Liaise with Finance and Administration Officer on issues relating to financial management of the programmes.
  • Network with likeminded organisations and stakeholders Report to the Programme Manager.

    Level of Education/Academic Qualification

  • A bachelor’s degree in development work or humanitarian studies, or other social sciences.

    Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge of Project Cycle Management.
  • Basic knowledge and skills in Human Rights Based Approach.

    Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required

  • Should possess relevant experience in terms of technical support to local NGOs, monitoring and evaluations and ability to facilitate trainings, workshops, seminars etc
  • Knowledge of at least two of Diakonia’s thematic areas i.e. democracy human rights, gender, social and economic justice, conflict and justice, HIV and AIDS/sexual and reproductive health and rights.
  • Experience in resource mobilization
  • Good interpersonal skills & effective communication both oral & written English.
  • Attention to details
  • Must demonstrate the ability to plan and work under limited supervision.
  • Analysis & report writing skills with basic financial skills & budgetary skills.
  • Result based approach
  • Preferably experience of EU-projects
  • Preferable knowledge of Human Rights Based Approach.
  • Effective communication skills and must be fluent in both oral and written English.

    Relevant Work Experience

    A minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience in development work preferably in an international NGO set up directly related to program management.

    Duration: 2 years contract with possibility of extension depending on funding.

    Program Manager – LVRP

    The position reports to the Deputy Regional Manage.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership to the LVRP and oversee the implementation of the program.
  • Build and maintain strong and productive relationships with civil society organizations, donors, government agencies and other relevant institutions.
  • Manage resource mobilization for the program.
  • Provide support, accompaniment and coordinate capacity building of partner organizations.
  • Coordinate thematic areas support (i.e. sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) including HIV and AIDS, social economic justice, human rights and gender mainstreaming.)
  • Oversee finance and administration of the program including the budgeting process, allocation and disbursement of funds in respect of the program, and timely submission of program reports.
  • Network with other like-minded organizations for purposes of lobbying and advocacy.
  • Manage staff linked to the programme.
  • Arrange and facilitate the monitoring and evaluation of the program.

    Level of Education/Academic Qualification

    Masters (Advanced) degree in development work or humanitarian studies, or other social sciences.

    A Bachelor’s degree in the related field with proven work experience may be considered.

    Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge of Project Cycle Management.
  • Proven knowledge and skills in Human Rights Based Approach.

    Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required

  • Extensive knowledge and strong skills in SRHR, HIV and Aids, Human Rights, Gender, and Social and Economic justice.
  • Experience of working with small and rural NGOs.
  • Knowledge of the context of the Lake Victoria region.
  • Proven skills and positive outcome in resource mobilization and donor relations.
  • Strong skills in strategic work and development of programmes.
  • Strong skills in monitoring and evaluation.
  • Very good knowledge in financial management and resource management.
  • Extensive experience of networking and advocacy.
  • Effective leadership and managerial skills; strong result oriented approach.
  • Must have the ability to plan and work with limited supervision.
  • Good intercultural orientation (ability to relate and work with people of diverse backgrounds) and strong public relations skills.
  • Effective communication skills and must be fluent in both oral and written English.

    Relevant Work Experience

    A minimum of seven years experience in development work with extensive practical field work within the East Africa Region.

    Duration: 2 years contract with possibility of extension depending on funding.
