Country Representative - Somalia

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Closing date: 20 June 2008

The AFSC Country Representative will be based in Nairobi. S/he is expected to serve as representative of the organization and responsible to direct the program direction from Kenya.

The main duties and responsibilities are outlined below to guide leadership, new initiatives and efforts to work effectively with other institutions among others.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Regional Director for Africa, the Country Representative is responsible for the overall management, program direction, reporting, and stewardship of AFSC resources for Somalia program.

  • She/ He will ensure AFSC staff apply to their work the best approaches and methodologies.

  • S/he is responsible for managing relationship with program partners as well as assessing partners' ability and as necessary improving their capacity.

  • The Representative manages contacts in Somalia and Horn of Africa, with government ministries, UN agencies, and local and international NGOs.

  • S/he directly supervises one or two staff working for the program.

  • The Representative is responsible for budgeting and accounting of all AFSC resources for Somalia Program.

  • Within the AFSC norm of collaborative decision-making and mutual support, the Representative will function as part of a team, together with the Deputy Regional Director, staff in the Nairobi office and staff based Philadelphia, Washington and the Quakers United Nation Offices (QUNO).
