Coordinator Freedom of Information Programme
SAHA is looking for a dynamic, committed professional with an interest in access to information and human rights advocacy to coordinate its Freedom of Information Programme (FOIP).
The coordinator is responsible for the implementation and management of the programme, including legal, financial, project, operational and staff management.
Draft and submit requests for records on behalf of members of the public, partner organizations and SAHA itself – in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) – and manage all related correspondence, litigation, appeals against refusals of access to information, complaints to relevant
authorities and submissions to governmental bodies.
Monitor and coordinate advocacy efforts – including media communication and conference presentations - relating to the implementation of PAIA and access to information, and related law and policy reform work, often in partnership with other human rights organisations.
Coordinate, support and supervise the work of the Advocacy and Outreach Training Officer, FOIP interns and other project workers
Identify, foster and advance potential funding opportunities for FOIP projects and activities.
Contribute to the strategic development of both the FOI programme and the organisation.
Qualifications and Skills:
Postgraduate (or First degree plus relevant experience) degree in Law, Political Science, Public Administration or related field.
At least 2 years related experience working in a legal environment or on public interest advocacy campaigns.
Familiarity with the human rights sector and a strong commitment to human rights is essential.
Understanding and experience working on Access to Information would be an asset.
Experience with NGO and /or programme management, including: financial, legal, administrative, programmatic and human resource management.
Ability to liaise with government, parastatal and private body representatives at a senior level.
Experience in leadership and supervising staff would be an asset.
Must be a South African citizen.
