CIVICUS Research Assistant to the Honorary President

CIVICUS is currently recruiting for the position of Research Assistant to the Honorary President.
This is a fixed term position and the purpose is to provide research support to the Honorary President. This will include providing research support on the Honorary President’spublication as well as any speeches and presentations that are requested of him. Specific task and responsibilities includes:
Providing support with research, writing and analysis byusing internet tools such as LexisNexus to locate existing articles, chapters, and other writing pieces that have been written by the Honorary President and conducting research (viawebsites, databases and publications of NGOs, international institutions and government) on issues pertaining to the publication.
Other tasks include working with the Executive Assistantto the Honorary President to provide the Honorary President with up-to-date and succinct information in preparation for speaking engagements and writing requests
Monitoring the media and keeping abreast of key policy initiatives and developments at an international, regional and national level and assisting with briefings, speech writing, presentations and articles.
The ideal candidate should have the following skills, experience and attributes:
A postgraduate qualification in Development Studies, Sociology, Politics or International Relations
Solid research experience and the ability to use internet tools such as LexisNexus
Outstanding English communications skills (written and verbal), critical thinking and organisational skills as well as maturity of judgment
Solid and broad knowledge of international political issues and dynamics, and of issues facing civil society, including democracy, globalisation, development policy, poverty and civil society relations with government and business
Excellent skills in office productivity software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ability to work effectively with minimal direct supervision
Speech-writing skills and experience.
