The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), supported by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is looking for an Associate Professional Officer to work on CIFOR research.
The position is open to Dutch national and permanent residents of the Netherlands or nationals from eligible developing countries

Duties and Responsibilities:
The APO will have two synergistic roles:
, and contributing to the global domain on this topic.
The APO will contribute to collecting and analysing data on fuelwood: charcoal and other sources of bioenergy, to prepare papers on forest-based enterprises, to writing policy briefs on these topics, and to stimulate discussion with key stakeholders, including government and civil society, on forest-based enterprises and bioenergy.
In engaging with policy makers the team working on this will be expected to make significant contributions to policy debates on forests, forest enterprises and trade and investment.
For the global domain, the APO will assist the domain leader in distilling key messages for forest-based enterprise development.
As a global team member, the APO will be expected to report on the progress in West Africa.
The APO will have a role in this regard, by assisting the global domain leader in preparing for side events and preparing policy briefs.
Undertake a critical assessment of past measures and current demand and supply patterns for fuelwood and charcoal that influence woodland landscapes
Appraise the costs and benefits, and opportunities (for forests and local livelihoods) of forest-based bioenergy development, with a focus on fuelwood and charcoal, and one of the emerging bioenergy crops
Undertake work on the local social and economic impacts of the expansion of bioenergy plantations
Assess the potential of forest-based bioenergy development for climate change mitigation
A masters degree in a relevant area is required, for example: microeconomics, rural development, agricultural economics, business, economic geography or natural resource economics.
Experience with household or market surveys is required.
Experience with action research would be an asset.
Experience in working with multiple partners in developing countries is desirable.
Excellent written and spoken English and French.
Good interpersonal and intercultural skills, good in teamwork
Good analytical and synthesis skills.
