Business Development Officers

Location: Up Country, Tanzania

Employer:Private Agricultural Sector Support Trust (PASS)

3 Positions available.

The objective of PASS is to promote and facilitate investments in Primary Agriculture and Agro-business and thus enhance commercialization of Agriculture.

Duties:

  • Marketing and information about role of PASS at meeting with potential clients, and various relevant forums

  • Identification of demand for assistance and support form target groups in accessing finance from banks. This will cover individuals, groups or SMEs in primary and secondary agriculture including agro processing

  • Design and establishment of feasible models for activities at smallholder farmer levels, including diversification of crops, out-grower schemes, improvement of production practices, vertical integration interventions etc

  • Making pre-evaluations of proposals presented for support, and assisting entrepreneurs in improving their proposals into Business Plans of acceptable standards

  • On the basis of the plans, assist clients in obtaining credit facilities form collaborating Banks e.g. CRDB, Exam, FBME, ABC, NMB, TIB etc

  • Identification and preparation of solutions for bottlenecks in agriculture performance e.g. low productivity, inadequate market access, processing, appropriate mechanization etc

  • Liaise with relevant key local authorities so as to identify and promote investments in agriculture and agro business in a respective zone.

  • This will include Chamber of commerce, or other similar stake holder groupings, agricultural authorities, traders, processor associations etc

  • Monitoring performance of clients to ensure adherence to agreed business plans to enable the meet projected financial obligations and avoid defaulting risks

  • Regular reporting to the management on your performance as per agreed procedures

  • Coordinate and oversee performance of PASS activities in specified zonal offices. Ensure that cost are controlled and revenues are optimized so that the branch is financially sustainable

    Requirements:

  • A degree in Agricultural sciences in Crops and/or Animal production

  • Additional post graduate qualification in business administration or similar field would be advantageous

  • Ability to identify and formulate programs for development of farmers in value chain system

  • At least 2 years experience in preparation of feasibility studies or business plans for investment decisions
