Bursaries for Sierra Leone Women in Education Program

This project is still in progress and its aims is to:

  • Increase the academic level of women teachers in order to increase their professional qualifications and their professional situation

  • Encourage women teachers to take up education leadership roles in the schools

  • Increase visibility for national teacher organizations and/or women’s networks

    Expectation:

  • It is expected; more women teachers motivated to improve their academic and professional level

  • More positive role models for the girls in the schools

  • A highly knowledgeable and gender sensitive teaching population

  • Bursary recipients are active leaders in the promotion of women in their respective organizations contributing to develop a cadre of strong women leaders

  • Increased retention and success to women training to be teachers

  • Better living conditions and position in society for women

  • Good-will developed regarding the national unions and/or regional women’s networks

    Financial assistance to pursue studies in education managed by special Bursary Committees of selected national teacher unions and/or women teachers’ networks.

    Women teachers wishing to advance their studies in education or on short-term gender equality issues
