BBC Monitoring, Karen, Nairobi

BBC Monitoring’s Nairobi office is responsible for gathering news and information from the mass media across Africa and the Middle East around the clock. It also provides analyses, roundups, profiles and backgrounders on the key developments in the region.

Monitoring Journalists

You will have an excellent command of English and Somali, both written and spoken, and excellent knowledge of regional and international affairs, especially in relation to the Horn of Africa.

You will also need to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure, as part of a team, and a willingness to work shifts, including nights and weekends. Ability to handle social media is a must.

Short-listed candidates will be required to sit editorial, language proficiency and general knowledge tests at our Karen offices. Successful candidates will later be invited for an interview.

Monitoring Journalist (Editorial)

Job Requirements

  • Degree in journalism or mass communication from a recognized university
  • At least three years professional experience
  • Ability to demonstrate sharp editorial skills
  • Excellent knowledge of news and international affairs
  • Passion for regional affairs, especially Middle East, Sudan, Somalia, Horn of Africa
  • Excellent social media and computer skills
  • Excellent planning and coordination skills
  • Excellent people and teamwork skills
