Assistant ICT Officer Job in Kenya

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

Purpose of the Post:

Under the supervision of the Senior Operations Officer, the person will be responsible for the formulation of an office plan for information management, and its implementation, utilizing the available resources, in order to maintain/provide efficient computer information systems and services, and to improve work effectiveness and productivity, consistent with the goals, objectives and strategy for the office and the organization.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide IT related support, and based on a review of IT status, needs, and management in the office, draft information management plan, including computerization, telecommunication, radio communication and records management.

  • Co-ordinate the support for technical operation of organizational office automation applications including UNICEF Program Management System (ProMS), COGNOS, MS Office, MS Windows XP, Lotus Notes and mobile/remote users.

  • Coordinate the introduction and technical operation of organizational computer applications.

  • Manage the installation of new versions of the systems and troubleshoot ad-hoc user problems in its functioning.

  • Manage the office multi-user computer network, as well as data and telecommunication facilities.

  • Plan the acquisition of specific computer hardware and software, coordinate its introduction into the office, and manage its maintenance.

  • Organize computer training and support.

  • Coordinate office records management through establishment of a records management regime and system for the office in accordance with organizational guidelines and policies.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to zonal offices on IT policies, maintenance of network and UNICEF systems, and coordinate implementation of new system in zonal offices.

  • Create and maintain ICT configuration database for both hardware and software.

  • Regularly review and evaluate office and users equipment and recommend replacement in accordance with UNICEF hardware life cycle guidelines.

  • Assist to maintain and of manage ICT infrastructure systems including WAN applications

    Qualifications, Experience and Critical Competencies:

  • Advanced University Degree in information management, with specialized training in computer science, information systems or telecommunications, as below:

    1. Theoretical foundational of computer science with practical applications of software, database, network, telecommunications and systems.

    2. Specifically, specialized training in information systems technology, information systems concepts and processes, and organizational functions and information management.

  • Superior knowledge and seasoned skills relating to the use of office automation equipment, information management, systems, and application software.

  • Ability to identify and integrate the needs of the office automation, available resources and systems requirements.

  • Ability to manage the office multi-user computer network, and solve systems/hardware/software problems.

  • Ability to identify computer training needs of the office, formulate and coordinate or implement training plans.

  • Five (5) years practical work experience at professional levels in support of office computerization.

  • Fluency in English and another UN working language. Knowledge of local working language of duty station an asset.
