The International Secretariat of Amnesty International in London and its seven global offices runs a voluntary programme.
As part of the voluntary programme, it run internship programmes based at the International Secretariat (IS) offices in London, Geneva and New York and occasionally in other IS offices.
Interns are generally recruited for a four to six month period, to carry out administrative- and project-related work within the Media and Audio Visual, International Law Organization, Policy and Evaluation, Americas and International Fundraising programmes.
There is an exciting internship opportunity at the resource centre entailing the following tasks:
Enter details of the new books added to the Centre on the Access database
Receive all Publications including Amnesty International publications
Inform the staff of acquisitions
Ensure that materials in the resource centre are shared by all staff
Ensure that Reference books are not loaned except in cases where there are more than one copy in the reference collection
Order publications from the International Secretariat as required
Maintain communication with International Secretariat Publication Team
Inform Staff about new publications and follow up on copies requested
Registration of borrowers using the registration form
Updating the Access database with borrowers’ contact details
Liaise with the Amnesty International Sections and structures and the general public on information requests
Assist Human Rights Defenders Coordinator and Refugee Assistant in organizing daily contact with the human rights defenders and asylum-seekers respectively
Assist Human Rights Defenders Coordinator in preparing meetings with human rights defenders
Work with the Information Officer covering Africa on book orders and organization of information
Circulate Daily Magazines & Newspapers among staff
File Daily Magazines & Newspapers
Register, shelve and keep in order all books, magazines et cetera in the Resource Centre
Sort out and archive monthly any Resource Centre materials, especially newspapers and other publication
Monitor and recover Resource Centre materials from staff
Help at the Reception when the receptionist is out
Assist in the organization of events at/from the Resource Centre
Any other tasks assigned
The intern would have opportunities to work with various staff both in the Kampala and London office in order to enhance their skills.
It is looking for someone who has information and library knowledge.
Knowledge of French and/or Swahili would be an added advantage.
This is an unpaid six months internship renewable once, but transport and lunch are reimbursed.
